Saint Sophia of Kleisoura
Aug 3, 2025 • Father Demos Nicolaou
In this talk, Father Demos recounts the life of Saint Sophia of Kleisoura, born in 1883 near Trapeza in what is now Turkey. Living through the turbulent years of the early 20th century, including the population exchange between Greece and Turkey (1920–1924), she endured great personal loss; her husband disappeared during wartime, and her only son died young. Despite these tragedies, she became known for her deep prayer life, with accounts of her prayers calming storms at sea. Her life exemplifies profound faith, self-denial, and spiritual resilience.
