The Parish and Community of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene, oversees one of the largest Local Government Areas in all of Metropolitan Sydney. With this in mind, the community of Liverpool, while rich in growth, character and advancement, called for a need to service those within this community that required basic food and essentials.
In response to this call, the Ladies Philoptochos (Auxiliary), in the spirit of charity and almsgiving, established a community feed in collaboration with their Parish Priest, now Bishop-elect Father Prochoros Anastasiadis of Charioupolis and the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.
What started with a few hot meals in Styrofoam containers, grew into a feed that continually operates 3 times a week, rain, hail or shine and in 2 different locations, right in the heart of Liverpool. Through the dedication and enthusiasm of its volunteers who set up, source, cook and serve these meals, the feed has remained sustainable since its inception in early 2020 - operating during both NSW lockdowns and in collaboration with the Liverpool Council and Police.
This service met not only a response to a call, but something even more heartfelt. Through the work of The Holy Spirit, love, kindness, friendship and almsgiving has been made manifest.
